A Coliving Owner's Guide to Hosting Remote-Worker Guests
By Offshore Stays Editorial
If you run a coliving or surf house and are thinking about remote workers as your main guests, it helps to understand how they choose and what keeps them happy. The good news is that most of it is practical, not expensive.
What remote workers check before they book
1. Wifi they can trust. Speed matters less than stability. Say what connection you have, whether there is a backup, and where in the house it works best.
2. A workspace. A desk and a proper chair, in a place that is quiet during the day. A shared coworking room works well if it is not also the living room.
3. Stay length. Many remote workers want two to four weeks or more. Make sure your minimum and maximum nights allow it.
4. Location. Walking distance or a short ride to a surf break, plus food and groceries nearby.
5. Who else is staying. Solo travellers often want a community without giving up privacy, so private rooms with shared social spaces are popular.
Set up the house for two rhythms
Your guests work during the day and surf around it. That means quiet hours in the morning, a place for calls, and shared spaces that still feel social in the evening. Simple house rules stated up front prevent most friction.
Pricing that matches how they stay
Private rooms for a solo traveller and shared rooms are different products. On Offshore Stays a private room can carry a solo discount, and any room can carry a long-stay promotion. Those apply automatically to the total, and the longer stay is clearly the better deal for the guest and the steadier income for you. There is a worked example in how long-stay and solo discounts work.
Choose your booking style
If you want to meet or vet guests before confirming, use booking requests: the guest's card is held and only captured when you accept. If you prefer full automation, use instant booking. Either way, keep every night you want to sell priced, since unpriced nights cause a booking to become a request. See booking requests vs. instant booking.
Help guests plan around the season
Remote workers often choose where to go based on surf conditions and cost. Linking your listing to the kind of information they search for helps. Our guides to the best time of year for surf and remote work and the cost of living in Canggu, Ericeira and Taghazout cover what they compare.
