A Surf-and-Work Daily Routine That Actually Works

The hardest part of combining remote work and surfing is not the surf or the work. It is deciding what goes where. These are three patterns that work, and what each one needs from your stay.

1. Dawn patrol, then work

Surf as the sun comes up, shower, and start work mid-morning. Conditions are often at their best early, and you finish the day with the water already done.

Needs: a break close enough to reach quickly, a flexible start time with your team, and breakfast that does not take an hour.

2. Split day

Work a first block, surf in the middle of the day, and finish in the afternoon. This suits tides that are best mid-day and remote workers whose team works across time zones.

Needs: a house where you can leave and return quickly, and a reliable connection for the afternoon block.

3. Work, then late session

Work through the day and surf in the late afternoon. It fits fixed office hours and evening light.

Needs: a walkable break, board storage, and enough energy left after a full day. Beginners often prefer earlier sessions.

Planning around tide and calls

Check the tide for the week and block your calendar around the best windows rather than deciding on the day. Keep a rule for calls that overlap with a good session and decide in advance which wins.

Choosing the right house

Your pattern decides what matters most in a stay. Use our checklist for choosing a work-friendly surf house, and see how conditions change through the year in the best time of year for surf and remote work.
