About
Peniche Surf Lodge is run by Claire and Duncan, a family of surfers who built their home here in 2008 and started the lodge so they could stay. There are two lodges, a few minutes' walk apart, just inside the old walls of Peniche and across the road from the ocean, plus private apartments close by. Lodge 1 is the social one, popular with solo travellers, couples and small groups of friends. Lodge 2 is quieter, a good fit for couples, remote workers and families. Guests share fully equipped kitchens, living rooms and patios with a BBQ, and Lodge 2 has a roof terrace with panoramic views of the bay. Linen and towels are provided, the lodges are cleaned daily, and there is free wifi, cable TV and a free computer for guests. Four large supermarkets, cafes and restaurants are within walking distance.

Work setup
Every room has a work desk and free wifi, and Lodge 1 has a free computer guests can use. Lodge 2 is the quieter lodge and the one Claire and Duncan suggest for remote workers; its living room opens onto a roof terrace with panoramic views over the bay. On surf days the beach camp is set up next to a cafe with internet, so it is easy to plan work around the morning lesson.
Surf
Papoa Reef is right outside the front door, a mellow reef break with a channel to paddle out, good for most levels. The Bay, a 3 km stretch of beach breaks, is a 5 minute walk away, Baleal is 5 minutes by car, and Supertubos and Molhe Leste (advanced) are 15 minutes on foot or 5 by car. Lessons run every morning from 9am for 1.5 to 2 hours with qualified instructors. Each day the team drives guests to the best spot for their level and the conditions, and sets up a beach camp with parasols, windbreaks, cushions and a volleyball net. Equipment is hired by the day (epoxy board 15 EUR, fibreglass board 20 EUR, wetsuit 8 EUR, bike 15 EUR). A 2 hour lesson is 45 EUR, and pro coaching with video analysis starts at 90 EUR a day, with Dane Hall, a sponsored professional surfer.

Community
Lodge 1 is where solo travellers meet: shared kitchens, a big living room, a patio with a BBQ, DVDs, board games and books. The day starts with a surf lesson and ends at the beach camp, where everyone plays volleyball and ball games between sessions. Claire and Duncan also run surf safaris along the coast and can point you to their favourite restaurants in Peniche, such as Maharani (Indian, harbour view), Profresco (fish, sunset views) and Tasca do Joel (meat and fish).

PSL1 4 bed mixed dorm /surfing lessons/surf hire
Our comfortable dorm room in Lodge 1, with 2 bunk beds (4 beds). It shares a bathroom, 2 kitchens, BBQ areas and a large living room with a free computer, wifi and cable TV. We offer surf lessons and equipment hire and take all our guests to the beach each day. From May to November, please request beds only if you want to hire equipment and join our days on the beach.
Delux private single ensuite room/Surfing
A private room with a single bed and a private bathroom, by the ocean in Peniche town. It is on the more private lower floor of the lodge, with a shared kitchen and BBQ patio, plus use of the upstairs kitchen, living room and balconies.
Sunrise seaview ensuite room for solo surfers
A beautiful sunrise-view room with fantastic sea views over the bay of Peniche and a private bathroom. Use of the kitchen with BBQ balcony, the roof-top sun terrace and a lounge with TV and work desk. A solo price is available on request.

Newly refurbished, fully equipped private apartments in Peniche town, across from the ocean or near the harbour, each with bedrooms, a kitchen and a lounge. Private check-in, fresh linen and towels every 3 days, and cleaning on request. Pets are welcome. The owners are 2 minutes away.

An apartment on the upper floors of the lodge with a private entrance and self check-in, the beach opposite and spectacular sunset views. Walking distance to restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and The Bay. Linen and towels are changed every 3 days.

Lodge 2, our quieter lodge, with panoramic views of the Atlantic over the 3 km bay of Peniche: 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room, with free parking. A 2 minute walk from Lodge 1 and 20 minutes on foot to Supertubos. Guests can still join the Lodge 1 surf trips.

Claire and Duncan
Claire and Duncan run Peniche Surf Lodge with their son Dane, a sponsored professional surfer who coaches guests. Duncan first came to surf Peniche in 1983 and has more than 35 years of experience on these waves; the family moved here in 2008 and opened the lodge so they could stay. They take guests to the best spot every day, set up the beach camp, and love meeting travellers from all over the world.
How to get here
Peniche Surf Lodge is at Rua Casal dos Violas 6, 2520-360 Peniche. Most travellers fly into Lisbon and take a bus to Peniche (around 90 minutes); from the Peniche bus station or the tribunal bus stop the lodge is a short walk. If you arrive late, Claire and Duncan leave the keys in a secure key box with instructions, so tell them your arrival time. Transfers from Lisbon start at 95 EUR depending on the number of people, and car hire can be arranged at Lisbon airport and in Peniche.

›How far is the surf?
Papoa Reef is across the road, The Bay is a 5 minute walk, Baleal is 5 minutes by car and Supertubos is 15 minutes on foot or 5 by car.
›Are surf lessons and equipment included?
Surf packs include lessons, equipment for your whole stay, breakfast and a surf snack bag (summer stays are a 6 night minimum). Rooms booked on their own do not include surfing: a 2 hour lesson is 45 EUR and equipment is hired by the day.
›Can I work remotely from the lodge?
Yes. Every room has a work desk and free wifi, and Lodge 2 is the quieter lodge for remote workers.
›How do I pay?
A 30% deposit secures your stay (payment link, bank transfer or card by phone) and the rest is due 2 weeks before arrival.
›Is there a discount for longer stays?
There is a 5% discount for returning guests and, in low season, for stays of 7 nights or more.
›What time can I check in?
You can check in any time until 21:00 (please tell us your arrival time) and check-out is by 11:00.
›Do you offer airport transfers?
Yes. Transfers from Lisbon start at 95 EUR, depending on the number of people.
